Bruno Trapikas
Bruno started playing soccer at the age of 10 with the Liths Soccer Club when the first youngsters team was organized. He quickly became enamored with the game and played at all the levels within the club (youngsters, youth, reserves, men's first team and veterans). He managed the reserve team for five years and was on the board for numerous years in various positions including President from 1983 to 1985.
While in school, Trapikas played for Brother Rice HS’s very first squad, and was inducted into that school’s Soccer Hall of Fame in 1990, then at the University of Illinois at Chicago for four years.
His soccer was not limited to just the Liths Club, he was also a member of the National Soccer League (NSL) and was its President from 1981 through 1982.
At the state level, Trapikas served the Illinois State Soccer Association as its Vice-President, Secretary, and State Cups Commissioner, during various periods between 1984 and 1995, and was inducted into the Illinois Soccer Hall of Fame in 2004.
Trapikas was Deputy Director of the Midwest Region, United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) from 1991-1996, its Director from 1996-2013, and USASA’s National Hall of Fame Chairman, 2005-2017. From 1996 to 2006, he sat on the National Board of Directors of the US Soccer Federation.
Trapikas was also Vice Chairman of World Cup Chicago from 1987-1994, and received a Special Service Award in 1994 for his work with organizing the 1994 World Cup games in Chicago. In 2007, he was inducted into the USASA Hall of Fame, and, in 2017, he became a life member of the US Soccer Federation, (one of only 21 individuals) so honored today.
And as if that wasn't enough, in 1994 he even started a cable-access program called "Soccer Illinois".
Even in semi-retirement in Michigan, he found time to be active in soccer, coaching at the youth level from 2010-2012, and becoming President of the Jaier Soccer Club for a three-year period. The game is in his blood.
